Michels Farm’s 5.7-Million-Gallon Manure Storage Tank Construction
Based in Lomira, Wisconsin, Michels Farm is a fast-growing and family-owned dairy operation with hundreds of cows. The farm has a rich history dating back to 1981, with milk going to Sartori Cheese, a high-quality artisanal cheese company based in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
Challenge: Scaling Manure Storage for Modern Dairy Operations
Growing dairy farms like Michels Farm generate significant amounts of manure. Without proper storage infrastructure, operational risks and challenges increase. For the Michels family, the challenge was clear.

As they continued to grow, they needed a high-capacity storage tank to manage year-round manure output. The manure tank needed to be durable enough to withstand the demands of modern dairy farming and allow for safe and easy access for equipment to improve operational efficiency.

Solution: Engineering Precision & Expert Collaboratio
Bringing 40+ years of expertise, Pipping Concrete designed and constructed a manure tank that aligned with Michels Farm’s needs and big-picture goals.

The heavy-duty concrete tank is 285 feet in diameter with 12-foot walls, with a 5.7-million-gallon capacity. The round design and curved access ramp make the most of available space and allow for improved efficiency and accessibility.
Precise engineering and teamwork went into every step of this round waste storage tank, which was built in 2020. Pipping Concrete proudly partnered with MSA Professional Services, Carew Concrete, Potratz Concrete Pumping, and the Michels Family to bring the large-scale project to completion.

The Results: Sustainable, High-Performance Manure Storage
Investing in a new waste storage tank positioned Michels Farm for future growth.

The completed tank provides ample storage capacity and easy access for equipment to manage waste output as their herd continues to grow.
The secure, durable containment improves environmental compliance and is built to stand up to the harsh winter weather in Wisconsin.
Michels Farm is just one of more than 500+ successful projects that Pipping Concrete has been a part of. We are building the future of farming with concrete waste storage tanks, feed storage solutions, and anaerobic digesters for farms across the United States.
